Frequently Asked Questions

2.1 How can I find an INSEAD publication?

INSEAD publications are documents written by Professors during their tenure at INSEAD and PhD theses. Whether you are looking for an article written by an INSEAD Professor, need an INSEAD case, or want to find out what Professors in a particular area are working on, check the Library Catalogue! It contains details of all books, journal articles, book chapters, cases, working papers, theses and conference papers published at INSEAD.

To identify material:

1 - Go to the Library Catalogue.
2 - Click on "Advanced search" and enter your search terms.
3 - Under "Additional options- document type" tick the INSEAD publications you want.
4 - Click on "search".

Please note that books, book chapters and cases are only available in the Library. Working papers can be downloaded directly from the catalogue and articles can be downloaded by using the Journal Finder.

3.1 I'm looking for a particular journal - where do I start?

Click on Journal Finder in the right-hand frame on the Library's site under "quick links". Type the name of the journal in the Find box and hit search.

All journals in paper and electronic format are included in the Journal Finder, therefore saving you the time of looking in each individual database and our online catalog. For each title, the various formats are indicated, with a direct link to the electronic provider.

3.2 How do I access the e-journals?

Very easily: just click on Journal Finder on the right-hand frame of the Library's site under "quick links". Type the name of the journal in the "Find" box and hit search. Titles will have a direct link to the electronic provider.
3.3 How do I get an article?

1° - Locate the article
A - I know the title and issue of the journal in which the article appeared.
  • Go to the Journal Finder page and type the name of your journal. All journals available in paper and in electronic format are included in the Journal Finder. Make a note of the years covered to make sure it matches your citation and determine if you can access the article in print or online.
B - I only know the title of the article.
  • Search the databases listed in the subject list of Electronic Resources under Academic Literature.
2° - Get the article
A - The article is available online.
Just print it out or download it.

B - The article is only available on paper.
Photocopy the article.

C - The article is available on paper but I am on the other campus.
Contact your Library which will get the article from the other campus. A 24-hour turnround is usually possible except for requests received at weekends, which will be dealt with on the Monday.

D - The article is not available.
Contact your Library which will obtain the article on Inter-Library Loan. Average turnround time is 1 week. An urgent delivery service is available at a cost of € 38 including tax.
3.4 What about an HBR article?

All the articles in Harvard Business Review - from #1 vol.2 - are available in PDF format through the "Business Source Complete" database. Click on the Electronic Resources list from the Library homepage and select BSC in the list.
3.5 How can I get hold of a back issue of a journal?

Even if the journal is not available electronically, the Library may still hold the hard copy of a back issue. Journal holdings can be checked in the Journal Finder. Alternately the Library staff will be happy to help you.
4.1 Where can I find analyst reports on a company?

On the Library’s Electronic Resources page, go to Investext. You can access complete reports from over 500 investment banks and brokerage firms. These reports cannot be found on the free web!
4.2 How can I create a personal account in Bloomberg? / How can I login to Bloomberg?

Steps to Create Your Personal Login:
  • Go to the Bloomberg Terminal in the Library.
  • Make sure the terminal is not currently logged in by pressing the red CONN DEFAULT key to the right of the F-keys on the top of the keyboard.
  • Press the green <GO> key without filling in any username or password.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen.
  • You will be asked for a telephone number as part of the login creation procedure. This number must be a number you can access while you are at the terminal. If you have a cell phone, use it. If you have no cell phone, you can use the telephone near the Bloomberg terminal in the Library. [Europe Campus (33)1 60 72 93 20]
  • After filling out the required information, an employee from Bloomberg will call you within 10 minutes to confirm your login. He or she will guide you through the remaining steps to activate your login. You must be at the Bloomberg terminal.

5.1 I'm not sure how to enter a login/password/domain

5.1a - Off-campus access: 'Please log in'

For most resources, only your IT network account login is required to connect to our databases. If you are connected to VPN, please log out to access the library's electronic resources. On the Electronic resources login page, use only your username (ex. smith) and password. Do not include the domain name (FBL or SGP).

For MBA participants only, please use one of these 2 possibilities as your username:

- your email address (firstname.lastname@insead.edu)

- or your INSEAD card number

(i.e. 9999999)

5.1b - On and off-campus access: 'INSEAD login required' or 'get password'

You may have to go through a secured webpage before accessing a database or a list of passwords.

When you are prompted by the system, please login with your network account:

- domain\your_name

- or domain\your_MBA_ID.

5.2 I can't access the library's electronic resources from off-campus

If you are sure you properly entered your login/password and the system doesn't allow you to access the library's electronic resources, maybe it's because your network account does not have the proper settings. Please contact IT support at X5555 or email them at 5555-ITservicedesk@insead.edu and ask them to check that your account has a Remote Access Permission.

5.3 I can't log in to my reader's account, in the library's catalogue

By default, your username and password are the same, i.e.: the 5 or 6 digit number on the back of your INSEAD card.

If the connection fails, please contact us! Sometimes the card number may have been changed (i.e. you got a new card after losing the first one).

5.4 'This connection is untrusted' (off campus access to the electronic resources)

INSEAD Libraries have a new security certificate allowing the library users to access the secured websites smoothly (e.g. Factiva). This works well with Internet Explorer and Chrome browsers.

For other browsers users can register the certificate in their browser to avoid receiving security warnings. For more details, please consult our procedure.

6.1 I use EndNote to create bibliographies. Can the Library help?

Contact IT to get your individual licence for EndNote. The Library provides information and tools to import references from the library databases to EndNote whenever possible.

Just go to our EndNote page and follow the instructions for the database and EndNote version concerned.

Please note that the Libraries also provide free access and support to RefWorks another citation management software.
6.3 Can Executive Education participants access the Library's resources?

All participants have access to the Library Catalogue and the electronic resources for the duration of the Programme. However, access is not permitted after the programme is completed.
7.1 What if I'm away from the campus but need access to certain of the Library's electronic resources?
  • Most databases are available off-campus. Check the Electronic Resources lists for the one you require. Some databases require special usernames and passwords, which you can download by clicking on the "get password" link from the Electronic Resources list. In case of problems, see the connection tips.

  • There is no need to use VPN to access the library Electronic Resources. Just open your browser, go to the library homepage and click on Electronic Resources; then click on the database you need.

  • When clicking on the database link, you will be prompted for your username and password. Make sure you enter your regular INSEAD network password.
7.2 What if I switch between the Asia and Europe campuses?

As far as the libraries are concerned, you will have access to the same resources and services, whichever campus you're on:
  • A common catalogue for both libraries.
  • Access to the same electronic resources.
  • A single registration: you can borrow books from either campus using your library ID.
  • Books can be returned to any library, whichever campus they come from.
  • For items not in the libraries' collections, both libraries offer an Inter-Library Loans service.
